INTRODUCTION
Materials Science & Engineering
The Department of Materials Science and Engineering was set up to generate professional knowledge and foster professional workforce responding to the demands of the era and academics in the development stage.
It aims to produce professional workforce equipped with professional knowledge and creative thinking skills through education affiliated to nano technology (NT),
information technology (IT), bio technology (BT) and environment technology (ET) centered on technology related to new materials demanded
in the fields of high-tech industries such as electronics, energy, aerospace and precision machinery.
The research area of materials science and engineering are largely classified into metallic material, ceramic material, semiconducting materials, energy/environmental materials and the goal is to change the properties of elements by modifying the fine structure and process of each element and to creatively design and materialize new materials required in the fields of high-tech industry.
Materials based careers range from R&D to new product development.
Materials engineers are involved in the extraction, development, processing, testing, and analyzing of the materials.
They used to create a diversity of products from electronic devices, displays, and energy storage/harvesting devices to iron and steels.
Material-related companies cover a wide range of fields such as Samsung Electronics, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Samsung SDI, LG Electronics, LG Display, LG Chem, SK Hynix, Posco, Hyundai Steel, Hyundai Motor, and so on.
